An Aerial Paradise for Cats: How to Choose and Use Cat Tree

For families that keep cats, cat tree are by no means merely optional decorations. It is a combination of a cat's private domain, playground, watchtower and claw grinding board. A suitable cat climbing tree can greatly enhance your cat's sense of happiness in life and also protect your sofa and curtains from the "disaster of sharp claws".

How to choose the right cat tree?

There are all kinds of cat tree on the market, ranging from small ones priced at just a few dozen yuan to "cat villas" priced at over a thousand yuan. When making a purchase, you can consider the following aspects:

Check the age and size of the cat: Kittens love to jump and explore. You can choose a style with a small platform and a hanging ball. Adult large cats (such as stuffed cats, Maine Coons, etc.) need more stable and spacious climbing trees. The diameter of the platform should preferably be no less than 40 centimeters.

Look at the material and stability:The base should be heavy and solid enough, and the columns should be thick and strong enough. You can gently push and pull the climbing tree. If it shakes obviously or makes noise, it indicates that the structure is not solid enough. When the cat jumps on it, it may tip over, causing a safety hazard. Hemp rope is more wear-resistant than hemp cloth. High-quality climbing scaffolds usually use tightly wound natural hemp rope.

Look at the spatial layout:A good climbing scaffold should have multiple up and down routes instead of a single "straight ladder". The well-arranged platforms and springboards allow cats to freely choose their paths, simulating the experience of weaving through trees. Closed cat houses or hanging baskets can provide a hiding place for timid cats.

Look at the space in the home:Measure the height and floor area of the placement location accurately. The climbing scaffold is best placed in a sunny spot where the main activity area of the room can be seen, rather than being stuffed in a corner. The climbing tree by the window is especially popular among cats - basking in the sun and watching birds is simply a paradise for them.

Tips for using cat climbing trees

The climbing tree just bought home may not be immediately favored by the cat. There's no need to worry. You can try these methods:

  • Put some of its favorite toys on the platform or sprinkle a little catnip

  • Guide it to climb up layer by layer with a cat teaser

  • Place the climbing tree near where it usually likes to stay

  • Gently rub the cat's PAWS on the sisal post to leave a scent mark

Why do cats need climbing trees?

Cats are natural climbers. In the wild, they will climb up the treetops to observe prey and avoid natural enemies. Although domestic cats do not have to worry about survival, this instinct is still deeply engraved in their genes. High places can give cats a sense of security - looking down at the entire room from a height means they are in control of the situation and reduce anxiety.

In addition, cats need to sharpen their claws every day to remove old claw sheaths, mark their territory and exercise their muscles. Without specialized claw grinding tools, sofas, mattresses and door frames would become their "top choices".
